For anyone else wondering if she ended up okay like I was, she ended up a little bit better. She deleted her reddit account but five years ago on the original post her friend commented linking to what happened here. If you follow the link to here you find out the memory loss was due to her being given the wrong medication due to malpractice. Apparently she came out of it with pretty bad memory problems (I would assume not quite as severe as before, but she mentioned doing therapy to learn new ways to store information.) and hearing loss.
