So I was runnin real low on gas so I decided to go sell plasma. Now, usually I go to the CSL plasma but they don’t pay super good and my tank was preeeeetty much on empty so I went to the BPL plasma instead. This is the same place that deferred me from donating anywhere for three days because I’m on testosterone for HRT, but they also pay like 50$ a pop as compared to CSL’s 25 so I decided, fuck it, let’s just do it.
So I go in and… four hours of waiting. That’s not an exaggeration. I went in at 3 pm, didn’t even get to the donation bed before 7. They finally get me in the donation bed, but they keep constantly using the wrong pronouns no matter how many times I correct them. But I need this money so finally I just resign myself to it. So I finally get hooked up, and things are going well, they take all my vital juices and I get to slurp all my delicious ice cold saline up into my veins and I’m ready to go!
Except it took them half an hour to unhook me from the IV. I think it would have been even longer, but I finally flagged down a tech and asked them to undo me. They said it’d be another 10 minutes and I said that it’d already had been a half hour and they kinda shrugged and I said I was gonna take it out myself then. Then they finally unhooked me and I was finally done.
Moral of the story- don’t go to BPL, they take ages and tend to be shitty to trans folk.
